Ray90 VHF Radio & AIS700 Bundle

Ray90 VHF Radio

Raymarine’s fixed mount Ray90 modular VHF radio brings multi-station communications to a whole new level of power, performance, and flexibility. The Ray90 is a black-box design with a transceiver that hides out of sight while the ergonomic RayMic handset and remote speaker provide full control of the radio with crystal clear audio.

Features:

  • Black box, multi-station capable VHF radio
  • Wireless handset and active speaker available
  • Wired handset and passive speaker included
  • Expandable to 2 handsets
  • Built-in loudhailer and fog signal generator
  • Optional external GPS
  • Simple NMEA2000 and NMEA0183 Networking

Ray90 is equipped with a powerful 25-watt transmitter and commercial grade electronics for long life and superior performance. Channel scanning, dual-watch, tri-watch and weather alert are standard. Class D Digital Selective Calling radio and integrated GPS makes setting up the advanced safety and calling features easy. Simply input your vessel’s MMSI number during setup and you’re ready to go. For GPS operation the optional GA150 passive GPS antenna is required.

Position Tracking

Use Ray90’s position tracking feature to keep tabs on up to 5 nearby DSC equipped vessels. Their positions are automatically shared with your Raymarine MFD. Keep an eye on other boats in your cruising party, monitor vessels of interest, or manage your local fleet. In Europe the Ray90 supports the ATIS system on navigable inland waterways.

Loudhailer

Ray90’s built-in loudhailer will make you heard on-deck and across the harbour. Connect an optional hailing horn and make your presence known with 30-watts of audio output, plus 2-way talkback. When things get foggy, the loudhailer can also be set to automatically sound required fog signals for power and sailing vessels underway and at anchor.

Waterproof & Ruggedized

Ray90’s transceiver unit is cast in solid aluminum for shock and vibration resistance and maximum heat dissipation. RayMic handsets feature super-bright backlighting for easy viewing in all conditions and oversized keys provide a sure grip with easy access to commonly used functions.

Expand Your System

The Ray90 system includes 1 RayMic wired handset and a passive speaker kit. Expand your system with an additional RayMic handset and remote speaker. For noisy environments choose the optional active remote speaker. No matter how small or how large your vessel is, the Ray90 all the power and performance you need for essential communications on the water.

The AIS700 from Raymarine is a Class B Automatic Identification System (AIS) transceiver designed for use with Raymarine multifunction navigation display systems.  AIS is an international marine navigation safety system that allows participating vessels to silently exchange key navigation information including vessel name, identification, course, speed and more.  AIS contacts can be displayed on Raymarine multifunction displays, chartplotters, radar displays and select instruments.  As a Class B AIS transceiver, the AIS700 not only receives broadcasts from other vessels, it also transmits your own boat’s information too helping you to be seen on other vessels’ systems.

The AIS700 is engineered using the very latest SO-TDMA (Self Organized Time Division Multiple Access) networking technology which allows it to perform faster and at longer ranges than d speed over previous generation AIS products.  For ease-of-installation, the AIS700 has a built in VHF-band antenna splitter which allows it to share a single antenna with your current VHF radio.  AIS700 also has its own internal, dedicated 72-channel GPS receiver with external antenna as required by international standards.

AIS700 also supports both hardware and software-enabled Silent Mode.  This allows you to temporarily restrict broadcasting your vessels own data, while continuing to receive updates from surrounding traffic.  Silent Mode can be particularly useful when transiting waters where extra security is a concern, or even in competitive tournament scenarios when you might want to prevent other from finding out the location of the hot bite.  Normal AIS safety broadcasts can be easily reinstated with a few simple touches of the AIS controls in your Raymarine MFD, or with the flip of a switch for hardware-silenced systems.

The AIS700 is super-compact for easy mounting inside your helm, in a service locker, or other out-of-the-way location. It can connect to your other onboard electronics using the latest NMEA2000 networking. AIS700 also has a built-in NMEA0183 multiplexer to assist in connecting it to older MFD’s and VHF radio systems. AIS700 also has a built-in USB 2.0 connection that can be used to tie the transceiver into a computer or laptop running AIS compatible navigation software. AIS700 has a Secure Digital (SD) memory slot that can be fitted with an owner-suppled flash memory card for continuous recording of the AIS data stream.

Features:

  • Full transmit and receive AIS for enhanced situational awareness and safety
  • Latest SO-TDMA networking for longer range and faster performance

  • NMEA2000, NMEA0183, PC and SeaTalkng Compatible

Simplistic and Inappropriate
Format: Paperback
I was hoping this book would provide insights into how to present complex information in a more comprehensible, useful format, using PowerPoint as the tool. Instead, the overall gist of this book is that presentations should be "dumbed down" as much as possible. The theme the author presents is that presentations should be story based. This is reasonable. However, the method the author recommends is that essentially *all* meaningful, complex (or, as the author prefers "boring") content be removed from the presentation. Presentations then become nothing more than catchy headlines and colorful graphics. All content should be in the presenter's notes (not typically to be provided). This is juvenile and useless and frankly reflects a complete lack of understanding of how presentations are made in a complex business environment.

On the right track
Format: Paperback
This book is a good introduction about how to use story-telling techniques in PowerPoint presentations. There are some good ideas here that you won't find in technical manuals. If you don't know film techniques these will be eye-opening. But the book could have been much stronger if it were to push these concepts to the next level. I saw a PowerPoint presentation with Andy Goodman, who teaches more or less the same thing, and his presentation nailed these concepts more cleanly than this book does. But again, this book is definitely worth checking out if you haven't studied storytelling before.

An Essential
Format: Paperback
I've created PowerPoints for executives in major corporations and national non-profits for years now, and this is one of the first books I suggest anyone who needs to create their own PowerPoint look to. Beyond Bullet points is accessable enough that the novice PowerPoint user can understand what's going on and use the lessons in his or her next presentation; it's also detailed and challenging enough that even an old salt like me can find things to learn and do. Don't be another person who stands on stage reading their PowerPoint, and don't let reading your slides distract the audience from your presentation; follow the suggestions in this book and wow your audience.

Essential reading for PowerPoint presenters.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Cliff shows details how to improve our PowerPoint presentations. He gives concrete and simple steps to transform a message into a targeted presentation. All of us have suffered from presenters who went over their allotted time because they had vital information to give us, yet we still didn't know their main point. Many have seen slide decks burdened with dozens of bullet points. Did the volume of points yield more clarity or did they dull our ability to focus on the message? Probably not. Read Cliff's book. Follow his method and you'll be a more effective presenter.
